Frequently Asked Questions

1.) How Do I Choose the Right Natural Stone for my Project?

At Skyline Quarry, we offer a variety of natural stone, including flagstone, bluestone, wallstone, veneer stone, and gravel products. We can assist in making sure you pick the right stone for your project.

Customers can:

• Hand-pick stone from our quarry’s stone piles

• Purchase pre-palletized stone for convenience, at an additional cost.

• Buy bulk stone by weight.

2.) How Do I Calculate How Much Stone I Need?

You will need to figure out the square footage of the face wall on your project. To estimate the right amount of wallstoneveneer, or flagstone, follow this formula:

Measure your project: Multiply the height by the length of your wall or area.

Now you divide that by the allotted coverage per ton.

Determine coverage per ton: For example, small flagstone and veneer cover 10-12 sq. ft. per ton.

Example Calculation: A 3’ high x 50’ long wall = 150 sq. ft. ÷ 10 or 12 sq. ft. per ton = approximately 13-15 tons of stone needed.

3.) Do I Need to Be Home for A Stone Delivery?

No, but clear delivery instructions are required. Please mark the drop-off area with a tarp, stake, or cone.

Keep in mind:

• We avoid driving on lawns due to soft spots and septic tanks.

• We cannot dump near low-hanging trees or electrical wires.

• Our trucks need approximately 18’ of clearance with the body raised to dump.

4.) Can I Pick Up Stone Myself?

Yes! You can bring your vehicle to our Connecticut stone quarry, where we:

• Load bulk materials for you, with a loader.

• Allow hand-selection from our stone piles.

• Weigh your vehicle before and after loading to calculate your purchase.

5.) How Do You Sell Your Gravel Products and What Is the Difference Between a Yard Vs a Ton?

We sell our gravel products by the yard.

Stone weight varies by product.  A cubic yard of crushed stone typically weighs between 2,300 – 2,600 pounds.  A ton of stone weighs 2000 pound, so you get more material in 1 yard vs 1 ton.

6.) Are You Open to the Public?

Yes! We welcome both residential customers and stone masons

Our hours are: Monday – Friday: 7 AM – 5 PM

7.) How Much Natural Stone Is on a Pallet?

Most palletized stone weighs about 2 tons, but weight can vary by product.

Lighter pallets can be built upon request.

Yes! We provide stone delivery across ConnecticutRhode Island, and Massachusetts (excluding Martha’s Vineyard).

Note:  Our flatbed would need to be off-loaded with your own forklift, we do not come with any machine to offload.  You will need a machine that can safely lift and offload up to 2 tons.  If your machine cannot lift that much, we can make lighter pallets upon request.  Customers can also pick up orders directly from our quarry.

12.) Can I Return Unused Stone Or Gravel?

Unfortunately, we do not accept returns on any stone or gravel purchases.

13.) Do You Offer Polished Or Finished Stone?

No, all our products are natural stone

We offer:

Raw, naturally shaped stone.

Guillotine-split stone for clean edges.

Sawing service (charged per linear foot) for straight edges.

DO YOU OFFER ANY POLISHED OR FINISHED STONE?

Our stone is a rough, natural stone that does not get finished. Our stone is naturally shaped, snapped on our hydraulic guillotine splitter, or drilled and then “popped” with feathers & wedges (for larger stone only). We do also offer a sawing service for a charge per linear foot. This is helpful if you want your stone to have a perfectly straight edge if it is going to be butting up against another surface.
