SMALL VENEER & SMALL FLAG STONE

The definition of Veneer is a thin covering over another surface.   Veneer is used for building cladding and does not impart any structural strength to the wall.

We refer to one of our wall stones as small veneer which confuses some people today.  The history of our small veneer goes back to the day before sawing stone to thin stone even existed.  The stone used, to build a chimney or veneer a house did impart structural strength along with complying with fire codes.  

Our small veneer is an irregular shaped granite schist stone that we mine right here from the mountain in our Quarry.  Our stone comes out in sheets of varying thickness with seams that we split down by hand.  Our Small Veneer ranges in thickness from 3-5 inches thick and from 6-18 inches in its area.

Our Small veneer is used for many different applications.  It’s most popular use is in a retaining wall.  The small veneer has enough depth to it so you can build your wall without using mortar.  They can also be used for individual stepping stones or you can stand them up to veneer a chimney giving the stone a mosaic look.   

The definition of mosaic is a pattern or image that can be made from regular or irregular shaped stone that is held in place with mortar to cover a surface.

Our stone is used highly by landscapers and masons but also widely used amongst the DIY homeowners.  It is a user friendly stone because it is nice and flat on the top and bottom, making it easier to stack the stone.  Some people like to use the small veneer in combination with our small flag.  The varying thickness also helps with the ease of stacking the stones.

The definition of Flagstone is a broad term used to describe a range of sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.  These rocks are called flagstones because they can be easily split into flat segments that are used to pave patios, walkways and build rock walls, in addition to other home applications.

Our small flag comes from the same stone as our small veneer.  It gets hand split into thinner pieces.  The small flag ranges 1-3 inches thick and from 6-18 inches in its area.

Our small flag is used to create walkways, small patios, retaining walls and veneering, creating the mosaic look.  The small flag is great for a shorter wall, garden wall or flower bed wall.  The DIY homeowners like working with it because it is a manageable weight for lifting and placing the stones.
